To catch the mini notebook wave, Fujitsu Siemens finally unveiled the new AMILO Mini Ui 3520. This small notebook will compete head-to-head with netbooks from other vendors.
The specifications are pretty similar. It uses Intel’s Atom N270 processor. It has an 8.9-inch display, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a built in microphone with a low-fat weight of 1kg. One thing that stands out from the competition is the removable clip-on covers, available in five different colors. The Mini comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and ditches the SSD in favor of the hard drive. The connectivity is pretty impressive, since you can add 3G and Bluetooth through the existing Express card slot, in addition to the integrated WLAN. (more…)
Ah, yes, Chinavasion–maker of all that is weird and wonderful. They’ve outdone themselves this time. Their new Tri-Band GSM/GPRS touchscreen cell phone has something every gadgeteer dreams of: a built in projector!
The tri-band means it can be used with more providers than most phones. It can accept three different bandwidths: 900MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz. Those three are used by over 100 countries world wide. It has a touchscreen, WAP, bluetooth and a battery that gives you extra long talk time between charges. It even has an open SIM card slot.
The cell phone has a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, image view, a video recorder and a rich media environment messaging system. The internal 1GB micro SD card gives you plenty of room to listen to music, take pictures and make movies. (more…)
Nokia is planning to change the way we think of mobile phones. Their new phone will come in the form of a device that will roll up and mimic a bracelet, bend over and clip to your pocket, wake you up in the morning, form to fit your face when you use it as a phone and more. So far Nokia’s calling this cell phone a personal mobile communication device. To me it looks like a revolution in the way you look at a gadget.
It uses a liquid battery, speech recognition, and a flexible touch screen. The touch sensitive body cover lets it understand and adjust to the actions you take. Sometimes the sensitivity is positively eerie! When the phone rings, the Nokia 888 forms itself into the shape of a phone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best and makes your brother crazy. It’s like the feeling of having an electronic pet, or maybe a butler. As it senses your moves, it understands what you want, and responds to you in the way you love. It learns you, and learns to fit you better.
Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other Nokia 888 users and it. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way he can tell you he loves you without words.

The video below shows Google Android, the open-source mobile Operating System, to be used on all Open Alliance handsets in the future. It will power devices from direct competitors of Apple’s iPhone and it is set to become a triumph of open-source software. Think of it like Mozilla’s Firefox for web browsers, or the OS upon which Android is based on, known as Linux.
Specifically, what the video shows is Android running on an HTC Dream handset, also known as the HTC G1 in the US.
Here’s another leak from Palm, the Treo Pro, also known as the Treo 850w. One of the interesting things is that it’s not a Palm-OS powered device. I wonder whether Palm is still committed to further developing Palm OS.
The specifications of this GSM device are up to today’s smartphone standards, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microSD slot, and 320×320 pixel display. The design is a good improvement on the Centro’s design, with sleeker lines and a glossy finish. (more…)
The HTC Dream, the open-phone that will be running Google’s Android software, has been surrounded by a lot a speculation. There are rumors floating around that the release date has been pushed back to 2009. However the FCC has recently approved the HTC Dream, and it is believed Google and T-Mobile will launch the phone in the US on November 10 of this year. A confidentiality request attached to the application asks the FCC to keep details secret until that date. (more…)
Users started complaining about substandard reception, lousy signal strength, dropped calls and slow data speeds just days after the iPhone 3G’s July 11 debut. The gripes broadly include weak 3G signals in areas supposedly flush with 3G and dropped calls, often as the iPhone automatically switches from 3G to EDGE when the user moves between coverage areas. Other issues included slower-than-expected web browsing that doesn’t match Apple’s claim that 3G gives users a 2.4x speed boost over EDGE.
Citing a couple of unknown sources, BusinessWeek‘s Peter Burrows claims that the iPhone 3G’s troubles stem from a faulty chip or chipset from Infineon Technologies AG, a major mobile chip designer and manufacturer. Others blame AT&T for a poorly-designed 3G network, or insufficient capacity to handle the flood of calls as 3G iPhones continue to sell like hot cakes. (more…)
