Garmin is launching a new touchscreen GPS smartphone later this year but they’re not going to make it themselves. Apparently it’s to be made by a leading electronics manufacturer from Taiwan, Asus.
This is one of the richest-featured touchscreen handsets to come out this year. No wonder Garmin is carefully considering who they want to make it. Asus is the maker of the Eee PC line and the magnificent ZX1 mobile phone which was made in collaboration with Lamborghini. With that kind of reputation, no wonder Garmin looked their way.
The Nuvifone, will be a hybrid between a smartphone and a navigation device. It’ll have Wi-Fi, GSM, and 3G connectivity. (more…)
There are two firsts for the Sony Ericsson C905. It’s the first Cyber-shot slider phone and the first Sony Ericsson with an 8.1 Megapixel camera. I don’t know how good the photo results are or whether it can rival a dedicated digital camera or not.
With 8.1 Megapixels, you can print on up to A3 size paper.
The specs are pretty impressive. It comes with face detection auto-focus, smart contrast, an image stabilizer, geo-tagging, and a Xenon flash (just like a digital camera). Displaying photos on the TV is pretty easy with Wi-Fi (DLNA) or through the TV-Out Cable.
The new Sanyo PLC-XL51 projector is great for tight spaces. It can project an 80-inch 1024×768 pixel image from just a few inches away. This XGA ultra short throw projector uses an aspheric lens and mirror to drastically magnify images, and project them with minimal distortion.
The PLC-XL51 has an SD slot you can make presentations without the use of a computer. It also has color correction software that allows you to project images on dark surfaces.
It can even be controlled from any web browser, thanks to the fact that it has built in 802.11 b/g WiFi. If you don’t have WiFi, you can simply plug in an ethernet cable instead.
It will be available September of this year for $3,995.
I am sure you have seen countless movies in which they show people using video phones as if it was a regular thing. When you actually think about the technology needed for this, you wonder why something like this is not widespread yet. Tandberg’s hopes to change that with their new E20 video phone, which is targeted toward businesses.
This VOIP video phone has a 5 Megapixel camera which offers DVD quality video on its 10.6-inch WXGA LCD display. It also has a privacy shutter in case you don’t want people to see whats going on. (more…)
Along with the aclaimed Intel Atom and Via’s Nano Processors, it seems as though AMD is taking a swing at the UMPC market. The picture below appears to be a leaked AMD slide, describing a new single-core, 64-bit processor.
This ‘gadget’ can do 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds, and 145 miles between recharges. Those are the specs of Think Global’s new concept electric car, The Ox. Think Global is a Norwegian upstart that has been selling alternative-energy vehicles in Europe for sometime now.
Electric cars had a rough start 5 years ago with the General Motors EV1. In those days, e-cars ran mostly on Nickel Cadmium batteries which suffered from the memory effect and had poor capacity. Not this baby though, it’s powered solely by Lithium Ions that can be recharged to 80% in just 1 hour. (more…)
Check out these amazing ipod dock speakers from the Apple Store! Boy they’re a sexy number… though we’re not entirely sure if the intended market are fans of Led Zeppelin or baby boomers who saw glimpses of those airships (also known as Zeppelins)!
The pointy speakers produce stereo sound and charge your iPod at the same time. They also come with a remote control through which the volume and other aspects of your iPod can be controlled. Finally, it even comes with a S-Video jack for outputting images/video from the iPod to your TV! (more…)
LaCie has released a new 1 Terabyte portable hard drive, as if their older 500GB model didn’t offer enough storage. The new BigDisk Quadra actually has two 2.5-inch drives inside one enclosure, yet it is still rather small and weighs just 1.4 pounds. The two drives are configured in a level 0 RAID setup.
The drive supports eSATA, Firewire 800 (it also comes with a Firewire 400 adapter) and USB 2.0 interfaces. It is cross compatible with any PC or Mac.
It has an all aluminum heatsink case that keeps the drives cool without the use of a fan for super quite operation. (more…)
We previously covered Nokia’s two new business handsets: The Nokia E66 and the E71. I just got my hands on some new videos of both of these new phones in action. Enjoy.
Samsung Electronics is shifting towards producing more environmentally friendly mobile phones. They have have announced the SCH-W510 mobile phone which features parts made from corn flour, and is due to be released later this month.
The corn is used to create the bio-plastic that is used for some of the parts including the battery cover and parts of the casing. They also use anti bacterial finish on to decrease the negative effect handling a mobile phone may have on the human body.
Samsung said that they apply eco friendly design and manufacturing practices.
