After much anticipation, Nikon has finally announced their new DSLR, the D700. This 12.1 megapixel beast of a camera implements the same FX format CMOS found in Nikon’s flagship D3. The new FX format, opposed to the DX format found in earlier Nikon product, captures images on an image sensor the same size as 35mm film.
The new camera, clearly aimed at professional photographers, implements an array of features not found in earlier models. These include suport for UDMA CompactFlash, a 3-inch display, 51 point autofocus (with 3D tracking), and four-speed active dust reduction. It will also shoot up to 8 fps at full resolution and a mind boggling iso 6400. And to top it off, a highly convenient HDMI out. (more…)
If you haven’t heard already, 5 states have already enacted laws to ban cell phone use when driving your car unless you are using a hands free device such as a bluetooth headset enabled phone. The five 5 states are California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York or Washington. It will be illegal to operate a phone while driving without a hands-free headset in many more states to come so this is definitely a good time to get one and avoid the tickets.
But no need to fret, we can help you to avoid making an irrational impulse buy because we’ve scoured the reviews at Amazon, Froogle, CNET and Epinions to bring you a broad-based assessment of the best bluetooth headsets money can buy. The list is sorted from best rated to worst rated, of the best…the creme da la creme! We excluded headsets with high scores from reviewers but negative buyer comments to bring you only the *best*.

Now their is a camera that can’t be snuck up on! Olympus Japan announced the development of a 360° lens and camera. Sure it’s just a prototype now, but think of the possibilities! A self portrait no matter where you point. Always getting a picture of the guy who hates to get his picture taken.
Just like Ford and his assembly line, this 360° lense is a world first. And the company has only been working on it for a year. The camera covers a vertical angle of 180° now, while the old version only covered 45°. A special kind of glass is used for the lens, which has a diameter of 3cm.
All shenanigans aside, the camera is expected to be used for surveillance and at this time we don’t even know when. Olympus hasn’t said when the camera will be in production. (more…)
A new breakthrough in DVD technology has made it possible to put 42GB of data on a DVD and increase the amount of data you can store on a CD by 9 times!
Researchers at Tohoku University in Japan have discovered that instead of the more rounded grooves on the standard DVD it has become possible to make the surface grooves more V shaped. That allows for the massive increase in storage capacity.
There is a downside to all this. The new DVD/CD’s won’t work on current players and recorders. (more…)
High def movies are great inventions, but they’re hard to stick in a scrap book. Well, Sony–the genie of the video world–has produced a compact HD video capture camera that will do the hard part for you. The magic is smile shutter and face detection and it works like this: As you record the video with your HDR-CX12 Memory Stick® Handycam®, it senses when anyone smiles and automatically takes a 10-Megapixel photo! It features child and adult prioritization so you can capture photos when your intended subject group smiles, and can even detect and capture a smile while in standby mode – just aim the camcorder and you’ll capture smiling moments. After much anticipation, Nokia has finally, and officially, introduced its new line of sleek and sexy phones. The Supernova Series represents the mid-range fashion section of the market. They are meant for consumers who see their phones as a fashion accessory as well as a communications device.
The new line includes two “candy-bar” phones, the 7210 and 7310. It will also include a flip phone, the 7510, and a slider, the 7610. Apparently the conspicuously absent 7410 was not worthy of market.
The base phone, the 7210, includes tri-band GSM radio, EDGE, a 2 Megapixel camera, and an FM radio. The slightly better 7310 supports changeable Xpress-On faceplates, TV-out, and GSM 850. The 7510 crams all the features of the 7310 in a flip-phone form factor while the 7610 incorporates a 3.2 Megapixel camera.

The Redbull wrapped around the iPhone dock you see above is a do it yourself anti-interference shield for the Apple iPhone. If you have ever had your iPhone sitting next to some speakers or a monitor you know how much interference it creates with both displays and speakers.
This shield can be built in about 15-30 minutes and it is said that it “effectively reduces or eliminates all the buzzing sounds the iPhone inflicts on surrounding unshielded speakers.” (more…)

That’s right, this is not a work of Photoshop. If you’re old enough to remember rotary phones you’ll no doubt recognize this.
Now the iPhone App store is selling a software package that will turn your high tech, state of the art iPhone into an old fashioned, low tech, hardly remembered, Ma Bell Telephone!
It comes complete with realistic sound effects and animations that simulate a real rotary phone as you “insert your finger” and pull it round to the finger stop. And yes, it really does dial the phone number.
