The iControlPad Enhances the iPhone Mobile Gaming Experience

Apple’s iPhone has proven to be quite a versatile piece of hardware, and earlier this month Apple said, “it’s not a phone, it’s a console experience.” While it makes use of the touch screen and tilt sensors for its gaming applications, without some other form of input (such as a D-pad and additional buttons) it really can’t compete with the other handheld consoles such as the Sony PSP or Nintendo DS.

We’ve been seeing some different prototypes of the iControlPad since summer, but now the iPhone gaming peripheral is heading into production. The unit itself is a case with additional buttons that the iPhone is inserted into, turning it into a handheld gaming console. (more…)

This is awesome news for both Xbox and Playstation 3 owners. Wii owners of either game are still left in the dark, which will come as no surprise for those familiar with Nintendo’s practices.

Nintendo Announces Wii MotionPlus

Nintendo just revealed the Wii MotionPlus, a little block you plug into the bottom of your Wii Remote to give it more refined and sensitive motion detection. From Nintendo’s Website:

Nintendo’s upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.

The Ultimate Media Center: The ITC One

Decisively marketed to the “I have more money than I know how to rightly spend” demographic, the ITC One from SE2 Labs is, quite possibly, the only media center you’ll need for at least the next 4 years (give or take). That is, of course, if you’re willing to fork over the minimum $25,000 to actually order the machine.

Sitting like some kind of gigantic monolith in your living room, the ITC One comes with an XBOX 360, iPod dock, and DVR on the standard model, with things like an optional Blu-Ray, Apple TV, or Nintendo Wii available as optional addons. Throw in your HDMI, Ethernet, and other standard connections, and this is one beast of a media machine that doesn’t kid around. It’s the veritable Swiss Army knife of media centers with everything wrapped up neatly in one self-contained package for your convenience. (more…)

The Child Locator Helps Parents Keep Track of Their Kids

A child is missing. Her face is posted on telephone poles throughout the city. The nightly news covers her frantic family’s plea for her return. A terrible scenario, yet it happens way too frequently.

Thankfully a solution is on the way. The Link Child Locator from Continuum Studio is coming soon. It’s a pair of bracelets. One for the parent, one for the child.

The child module transmits a signal to the parent. The radius is determined beforehand and when the child begins to go outside of the given radius, the parent’s watch/bracelet buzzes.

A glance at the bracelet will tell you which direction the child is in. (more…)
