This Immersive Virtual Reality Cocoon Has A 360 Degree Display

The Immersive Cocoon, or i-Cocoon for short, has 360 degree surround video capabilities. Add that to it’s 3d surround sound as the audio-visual experience provided by the i-Cocoon completely envelops you, creating very realistic virtual environments.

It has a 3D motion tracking system which senses arm, hand and leg movements using a series of motion tracking cameras inside the Cocoon. Monitoring your movements using this system allows you to “fight in a Kung Fu game or swim through a sea of jellyfish, with the display responding in real time and surround vision. The system was developed my a former researcher at MIT and it was the inspiration for the futuristic computer shown in Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report.” (more…)

Can a Bionic Contact Lens Cure Blindness?

The answer is a resounding “Yes,” for many people, according to Professor James Wolffsohn of Aston University.  The Professor is spearheading research efforts to develop flexible artificial replacement lenses for near and far-sighted people to replace the old lens in a surgery similar to cataract surgery.

If the lens does work, expect it to pave the way for more innovative procedures and cures, even biological enhancements. (more…)

The Eco-Friendly Volt’s Final Form Has Been Revealed

Let us pause for a moment and stand in awe.

Here stands the wave of the future: a car that can travel 40 miles without using a single drop of gas. It requires no fill-ups every 40 miles, all you have to do is plug it into the wall to recharge it. It has an extra clean burning ethanol engine to create electricity if you run out.

It is made by the same people who killed the electric car in the last century, the same people who are now working to bring it back better than ever.

Still, this car has the world agog two years before it will even come out on the market.  (more…)

The Amazing 150″ Panasonic Life Wall TV Learns Your Preferences

This is the Life Wall by Panasonic.  An extremely thin 150″ TV that does amazing things.  It has face recognition so that it recognizes the face(s) that watch it and adjusts the display or program to that person’s preferences automatically.

How about having a TV that will move with you as you walk around the living room to keep the display right in front of you?  The display would be large or small depending on how far away from the screen you were.  It could display a screen saver instead of a black screen when turned off.

Powerful life-size images could dance with you, and videophone linkups would look like the caller was in the same room.

Video games would take on a whole new dimension with endless possibilities. School could be at home while the teacher could be at school.  (more…)

A Look At Some of The Worlds Smallest Gadgets

I know for a lot of things, bigger may be better. But when it comes to many gadgets, companies are always trying to make them smaller and smaller. With the development of new technologies, we now have the ability to make some of the smallest gadgets ever.

Take the iPod Shuffle for instance. The Shuffle was a big deal due to it’s compact size and light weight, but don’t think it is the smallest mp3 player. In this post, we take a closer look at some of the world’s smallest gadgets.

  1. The World’s Smallest Solar Powered Vehicle

This is the world’s smallest solar powered car. The tiny solar panel powers and electric motor which turns the wheels. It measures a mere 3.3cm x 2.2cm x 1.4cm.
  2. One of The Worlds Smallest MP3 Players

This MP3 player is so small that people might think you are crazy when they see you jamming to headphones that don’t appear to be plugged into anything.
  3. The Worlds Smallest Color TV Screen

Usually a TV screen this small is not a good thing, but this TV screen from  was developed to be used in a pair of TV glasses. The screen is about half the size of a postage stamp, and it is good for upclose viewing inside a pair of glasses.
  4. The Xun Chi 138, The World’s Smallest Camera Phone

This is the world’s smallest cell phone. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, a touch screen with hand writing recognition, an mp3 player and GPRS capabilities. It weighs just 55grams and measures 2.64 inches in length.
  5. The Space Cube is The World’s Smallest Computer

This tiny computer by Shimafuji has a 300Mhz processor, a 1GB CompactFlash card for storage and 64Mb of DDR SDRAM. It also has a USB port, an Ethernet port, VGA output and jacks for headphones or speakers.

The Bulletproof Bed That Protects from Bio-Chemical Attacks, Hurricanes and More

This bulletproof bed is said to provide the ultimate in protection, communication and entertainment. It is called the Quantum Sleeper. This is similar to a safe-room except it is a bed so you don’t have to get out of bed and hope to make it to bed in case of an emergency.

The bed can protect from bio-chemical attacks, kidnapping and natural disasters (such as tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods).

You can have it made with your choice of CD players, DVD players, a PC, a microwave and a refrigerator. For communication you can choose from cell phones, a CB radio or short-wave radios. (more…)

The Nokia 888 Can Change Shapes On The Fly

A CoupNokia is planning to change the way we think of mobile phones. Their new phone will come in the form of a device that will roll up and mimic a bracelet, bend over and clip to your pocket, wake you up in the morning, form to fit your face when you use it as a phone and more.  So far Nokia’s calling this cell phone a personal mobile communication device. To me it looks like a revolution in the way you look at a gadget.

It uses a liquid battery, speech recognition, and a flexible touch screen.  The touch sensitive body cover lets it understand and adjust to the actions you take. Sometimes the sensitivity Form follows function and follows and follows and followsis positively eerie!  When the phone rings, the Nokia 888 forms itself into the shape of a phone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best and makes your brother crazy.  It’s like the feeling of having an electronic pet, or maybe a butler. As it senses your moves, it understands what you want, and responds to you in the way you love. It learns you, and learns to fit you better.

Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other Nokia 888 users and it. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way he can tell you he loves you without words.

The Shape-Shifting BMW GINA: Can You Say Transformers?

What you see above is the BMW GINA Light, and this car has a body made entirely out of high tech seamless fabric which is stretched over a metal frame.  So it won’t turn into Optimus Prime and blast Decepticons, but it can transform. The body shape of this car can be changed at will by the driver.

The material on the exterior of this car is stretched over an aluminum frame which is controlled by hydraulics so you can change the shape of the car as you see fit. That means you can automatically make the spoiler higher, or widen out the fenders to fit your personal taste.

Words cannot explain how cool it looks when it shifts shapes. Check out the video and see for yourself. (more…)

Vertipod: The Personal Flying Platform

The Vertipod is a vertical flying machine invented by Pete Bitar, a man famous for his Pentagon Issued research & development projects.

This futuristic contraption allows the user to hover vertically and move horizontally by shifting his/her weight. This method of locomotion is similar to that of a Segway.

Presently, the Vertipod is classified as an ultralight aircraft, and its simple flight control systems may spark a revolution in personal transportation.

The Vertipod resembles an inverted, one-man helicopter. With a propeller at its base and a platform with back support built on top. The user controls it via a stick at waist level.

It’s moderately sized 440cc engine runs on gasoline or ethanol and is activated like a lawn mower – by pull-start.

The flying machine is capable of flying 5 to 15 feet above ground at up to 40 mph. (more…)

Researchers Develop Foldable LED Displays for Ultra Thin Computers

Israeli researchers from the School of Physics and Astronomy at Tel Aviv University and Ben Gurion University predict that plastic-based transistors and organic light-emitting displays will revolutionize the electronics industry.

Flexible plastic transistors could lead to ultra thin, bendable notebooks, they say. Currently impossible with rigid silicon based transistors.

Less complex and easier to manufacture, foldable organic light emitting displays (FOLED) will provide a cheaper and more energy efficient solution than current LCD panels. (more…)
