OnLive is debuting a new on demand service that will totally revolutionize the gaming world. OnLive, created by Steve Perlman (Atari, Apple, Quicktime) and Mike McGarve(Eidos), aims to bring high end video gaming to the home with an on demand service that will perform on par to the newest game consoles while running off any basic computer or TV.
Instead of purchasing a video game console (Wii, PS3, Xbox), OnLive servers handle the processing. All that is needed is a micro console (or basic home computer) and a broadband connection. It doesn’t matter if you prefer Windows or you are a Mac person, you too can play these processor intensive games at home and enjoy the same action your gamer friends enjoy without investing on a pricey gamer computer. So the Scarpar offroad powerboard is not really a hoverboard, but watching this thing effortlessly move across rough terrain is truly amazing. This is is definitely skateboarding 2.0, and the video after the break below shows you exactly what that is.
The board rides on tracks, similar to those on a military tank or a snowmobile, allowing it to go over rather large obstacles with ease.
The Cadillac WTF, or “World Thorium Fuel,” is a concept car design from Cadillac. It was designed by Loren Kulesus, and the car is powered by clean Thorium fuel and comes with 100 years of maintenance-free service.
Every major system is redundant in case of failure in order to increase the longevity of the vehicle. Each of the four tires on the vehicle are not conventional tires, but a system of six parallel wheels powered by separate induction motors for a total of twenty-four wheels. (more…)
Chemical engineers at the University of Illinois have developed the world’s smallest fuel cell. At just 3mm across, the cell could replace standard graphite and lithium ion batteries in our portable devices, allowing them to become even more compact and pocket-friendly. The small hydrogen fueled cell is capable of storing far more energy in the same space than a standard battery.
The major downside to current fuel cell technology is that the cost to produce them is much greater than the cost to manufacture regular batteries. The University of Illinois team, however, managed to solve that problem with their tiny hydrogen cell. (more…)
In today’s eco-conscious generation, we are constantly looking for ways to save energy or power our stuff with less economic impact. Of all of the sources of energy in the world, the most natural and readily available is quite possibly water.
Water is used in hydroelectrical power plants to generate electricity by using water current to control a generator. Many new methods of deriving power from water have recently emerged, however, and some of those methods are seen put to use in the water powered gadgets and technologies listed below.
I have no idea how legitimate this is, but it’s cool to watch nonetheless. It is supposedly a water powered jet pack designed by a 16 year old, who is seen here demonstrating it before a crowd.
A group of firemen created a makeshift hovercraft by attaching several fire hoses to an apparatus welded to a compact car. The force of the water caused the vehicle to hover, as seen in the video. This method was also tested and deemed Plausible on an episode of Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel.
Water Powered Micro-fuel Cell
There has been talk over the past couple of years about a water powered micro fuel cell, and Samsung has announced that they have a working model capable of powering cell phones for 10 hours with nothing more than a shot of water. Water would react with a metal inside the cell, producing hydrogen, which would then produce 3 watts of electricity. Samsung is planning on having a commercial model available by 2010.
A team of scientists at the University of Glasgow in Scotland are currently conducting research in the advancement of digital imaging. This endeavor has been supported by a $740,000 grant from the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council of Scotland. The research will focus on a phenomenon known as surface plasmon resonance, which is “an effect exhibited by certain metals when light waves fall onto their surfaces.” (more…)

The Pentagon has commissioned DARPA to build a military grade flying-car. The Personal Air Vehicle Technology project aims to create a car which could drive on the road, and in an instant take off from the road and fly like a helicopter.
Although there is already a flying-car in the works by another manufacturer knows as Terrafugia, that one is designed for civilians.
The new flying-car being built by DARPA could be used for military purposes including scouting, search and resuce, and personnel transport. (more…)

The mirror in question is the M30P, an AV display that displays a talking face to let you know what’s going on in your house. At normal times you see a real mirror that reflects your face back at you, but when the alarm sounds, the face in the mirror will come on to tell you where the security breech is.
Of course you have to have the security system already in place, this is just the magic mirror. By adding cameras and sensors to your current home security system, virtually any area in and/or around your home can be revealed. (more…)
