The New Asus Eee PC 901, 1000 and 1000H Debut at Computex

Asus has really outdone themselves this time. The new clam shells look so much sleeker and comes in various flavors sporting different graphic-designs on their covers. But thats not even the main highlight. The new mini-laptops of course are using Intel’s Atom processor and have 3 operational modes: Power Saving, High Performance and Super Hi Performance. Thats a runtime of 3.5 to 7.8 hours!

Battery life is dependent on the model of Eee PC. For instance the 1000H model utilizes an 80GB hard disk, which gives it the shortest battery life of 3.2 to 7 hours depending on the power-mode. The 901 model has the longest endurance of 4.2 to 7.8 hours owed to its smaller 8.9″ screen and 12GB SSD. All these models feature 6 cell batteries. (more…)

AMD Introduces PUMA Processors to Compete with Intel

5 years ago I couldn’t picture myself using an overpriced (in my opinion), underpowered laptop, but now I couldn’t imagine how life would be without my laptop. In the notebook market the undisputed king of the jungle is Intel. Intel is about to get a challenge from its eternal rival, AMD who is releasing their newest next-generation mobile platform dubbed PUMA. This new platform is due out in 2008. In early 2009 AMD will spin out the new “Fusion” integrated processor that combines the CPU and GPU onto a single 45nm die.

The combo-chip is set to be used in almost every gadget, from UMPCs to widescreen notebooks, as well as other consumer electronic devices.

At a conference yesterday, Nicolas Negroponte announced the OLPC XO-2, the follow-up to the successful OLPC XO.

The laptop is designed to be significantly smaller than its predecessor, making it more like a book than a computer, given its form factor. In fact, the XO-2 is designed to be flipped on its side and used as a book.

The device features dual touch screens this time around, allowing the device’s functions to change dramatically depending on what the user desires. Gone is the hand crank that was present in the original XO, leading some to speculate that this laptop may draw power from sunlight. (more…)

25 Insanely Modded Game Consoles and Accessories

So you are tired of looking at your regular Xbox 360, Wii or PS3? Feel that the controller for your new console is a bit bland, and nothing special?

Well, have a look at these 25 insane mods below and be inspired to create something unique that will blow your friends away when they come over for a gaming session or two. Or maybe this is just too much work for most of us.

  1. Giant Working NES Controllers

Here we have two different uses for giant versions of the classic NES controller…Firstly there is this coffee table with additional storage, but when you feel like playing some classic NES games, just remove the glass top and you have yourself a fully working NES controller. Just plug it into your console and play! Then there is the giant NES controller that, once you’re tired of using it as your NES controller, lets you use your computer which is housed in the giant controller-like case and voila, you can use your PC.
  2. The Xbox 360 Laptop

Ben Heck is a busy guy who loves to mod stuff, in ways that others, probably, wouldn’t. Like converting an Xbox 360 to a laptop, this contraption has a widescreen 17″ LCD, watercooling with a custom built radiator, built-in keyboard and Wireless, 3-port USB hub, ports on the back allows for the laptop 360 to be hooked up to your TV for some external display goodness. The case is all aluminum, with a plastic keyboard and a customized power adapter to power both the display and Xbox 360. The unit measures 16.75 x 10.75 x 2.8 inches and weighs 14 pounds.
  3. A Whole NES Console in a Cartridge

This casemod fits an entire NES console in one of it’s cartridges. This cartridge has been gutted of it’s original contents and have been filled with a NES on a chip system clone. It has a cartridge slot, power and reset buttons, two joystick ports, composite video and stereo audio outputs. This is one original and fantastic mod.
  4. PS3 Laptop Mod

Ben Heckendorn has become infamous for his awesome mods to consoles amongst other things, with this mod he has converted a PS3 into a laptop, maybe not the slimmest most portable thing but it’s a truly awesome mod, which is based on the 60Gb PS3 version, comes with a 720p 17? LCD screen, stereo speakers and amp, full keyboard and even a slot-loading Blu-Ray drive. The PS3 measures 17 x 13.75 x 3 inches and weighs 16 pounds.
  5. Nintento Wii Controlled Smart Home

This Wii was modded to control an entire house. It allows for full control of the lighting, temperature, surveillance cameras, music playback, the DVR and more.
