Its Like the RiTEK USB Flash Drive Doesn’t Take Up Any Ports

How many of you have complained about the pitiful number of USB ports there are on a computer?  I myself have used up all of the ports plus a powered hub and still I need more.  Well RiTEK hears your pain, and they have come up with a great solution.  Take a look at the Yego USB Flash Drive.  That’s right, a flash drive that acts as a mini hub for more devices.  Now that pesky problem of where to plug the old flash drives is solved!

But there’s more to the Yego than a splitter!  This flash drive can lock it’s ports and only let in the person with the right password.  This is not file by file, it’s the entire flash drive encoded with a password.  (more…)

These real-life working Rocket Belts are from Tecnologia Aeroespacial Mexicana. And with some impressive moolah, you could be soaring the skies in your very own, custom built Rocket Belt at more than 10 miles an hour. These James Bond looking devices aren’t new, they’re an old idea from the 1960s during which the US Military was looking for ways in which a man or woman could safely cross rivers and ravines quickly.

Once you’ve plonked down $250,000 for one of these “kerjiggers”, the company will provide you with a fully-tested, custom-made flying rocket belt, a special machine to make our own unlimited supply of rocket fuel, hands-on training in the process and the equipment, flight training of 10 flights in your own rocket belt, maintenance and setup training, and 24/7 expert support. 4. The Hovering “Lounger” Lounge Chair by HoverIT - $13,366
This hovering wonder looks like it came straight off a scene of Star Trek but is instead part of HoverIT’s latest range of levitating furniture. This lounge chair uses four extremely powerful permanent magnets to levitate itself above the ground. As you can see, it is made of toughened acrylic that you can place cushions and other niceties to make your lounging experience even more comfortable. HoverIT also claims that the magnetic fields produced by this levitating lounge chair can also soothe headaches and ease muscle and joint pain. Introducing the Shuttle X27 PC

Nevermind the low energy claims of the Dell Studio or the Mac Mini. A company famed for making small computers, Shuttle, is planning to release an even tinier and greener desktop called the X27.

Shuttle says the new PC will use as little as 23 watts in idle mode, and 36 watts while in use. The X27 falls into the ‘Nettop’ category of low cost desktop PCs, and uses Intel’slow power Atom chip. It also has the bonus of being mighty quiet, reportedly humming along at just 23 decibels — quieter than a “bedroom at night,” according to decibel noise charts. The low noise is matched by a suitably small case which measures 10 inches long, 7 inches wide and 2.75 inches tall. That is about the same size as the Asus’ Eee Box. (more…)

Dell’s Eco-Friendly Studio Hybrid

I give Dell points for all their recent efforts to explore new consumer-friendly computing possibilities.  Their Dell IdeaStorm was pretty revolutionary at its time, and has caused other companies to follow in their footsteps and set up voter-based feedback sites of their own.

They are also beginning to explore options in the ultraportable and Linux markets, which, given the less-than-favorable reception of Vista, might just be the best thing they can do in light of Apple’s success with it’s OS. (more…)

The 17 Hottest Steampunk Computer Creations

Even though it is often relegated to the realm of Geekdom, there is something enchanting about steampunk creations.  Best described as looking like something straight out of a Jules Verne novel, the trend rails against the clean lines and smooth surfaces present in so much of our modern lives and trades them up for an ornate style reminiscent of the Victorian era.  And wouldn’t you know it, there are some insanely creative artisan casemodders and computer enthusiasts out there who have a passion for all things steampunk.

Today, we’re compiling a list of the top steampunk computer creations for your viewing pleasure, and by the end, your computer might end up just looking a little dull in comparison.

  1. Steampunk Flat-Panel LCD Mod

Jake Von Slatt is arguably the premiere Steampunk casemodder online today.  His creations are both beautiful and functional, and he documents the entire process for many of his mods on his website, The Steampunk Workshop.
  2. The Steamputer

The Steamputer looks a bit like an artifact from a sunken submarine, with it’s green tint that reminds me of rusted copper.  The devil is in the details though, and as you get up close you notice the clever little bits put in here and there, like the piping all in the back of the monitor and the gears at the top of the keyboard.
  3. Victorian All-In-One PC
Another masterpiece from Jake Von Slatt, the Victorian All-In-One PC is quite possibly the most detailed piece in this showcase.  In true DIY spirit, the PC runs Kubuntu and puts your clunky gray Gateway to shame.
  4. The Opti-Transcripticon Flatbed Scanner

More creative naming from Datamancer, the Opti-Transcripticon is actually a full blown functional flatbed scanner lovingly transformed into an epic leather bound tome. It’s the perfect custom accessory to any steampunk computer station!
  5. The Telecalculograph
This impressive case is reminiscent of a furnace, what with it’s gaggle of gauges and piping  And yes, the furnace does actually light up.  What’s more impressive is that johnny5rd created this beast with  $70 and two months of time with little more than a dremel and drill.  Be sure to check out the full flickr gallery, linked above.

Acer Unleashes the X1200 Series PCs

Acer’s got a trick (or three) up it’s sleeve in the form of it’s sweet little power packed X1200 series of PCs.

Sporting an AMD Dual Core processor, 4 GB of RAM an Nvidia GeForce 8200 integrated graphic chipset (a boon for the Vista-users among us), two PCIe slots, nine (yes 9) USB ports, a Firewire port, an eSata port, front and back audio jacks, a 14-in-1 card reader, and up to 500GB in hard drive space.

All of that is crammed into a sleek, black 10.6″ x 4″ x 14.4″ form factor.  And did I mention the HDMI port?

This machine is practically bursting at the seams with features.  The best one of all?  The price.

This Brando USB Speaker Has Mood Lighting

Can’t decide whether to buy speakers or mood lighting for your room? Luckily for us, Brando has a brilliant idea of mixing the two entirely different things into one gadget, the USB Light Tube Speakers.

The blue electric glow kinda reminds me of cheap Star-Wars wannabe flicks that nobody even remembers the titles of. Although it’s drawing juice from USB, it doesn’t mean that you have connect it to the computer. The Light Tube can also be connected to MP3 and CD players, pumping out stereo sound in no time. (more…)
