SanDisk Unveils the fastest Memory Stick Ever at 30Mbps

Today SanDisk unveiled their latest line of memory cards known as the Extreme III Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, and these aren’t your ordinary sticks. What’s special about these cards are their write and read transfer speed of up to 30Mbps. Yes you read that right.

The older non-HG versions were managing 18-20MBps, as opposed to the new accelerated version. It comes in 8Gb or 4GB and both get up to 30Mbps. (more…)

Toshiba has Launched the Smallest HD Camera Ever

So you think the current crop of HD camcorders are pretty small? Not necessarily. Toshiba has launched the world’s smallest 3CCD camera head, the IK-HD1. This cube-shaped camera can deliver 1920×1080 pixel vdeo at 30 FPS, all from its 1.6 inch body and super featherlight 65 grams.

You can control the settings using controller box, which outputs the video via a choice of connections, such as digital HD-SDI, analog RGB, and component. There is an RS 232C serial interface and the option to adjust white balance manually or automatically.

The IK-HD1 is not set to compete with the consumer HD cameras from the likes of Sony or Panasonic, and it won’t be on sale for regular consumers. (more…)

The Casio EX-F1 Can Take 60 Photos in 2 Seconds

Casio EX-F1Casio has released their new 6 megapixel Digital camera, it has what is called a burst mode where it can shoot up to 60 frames per second (FPS). This can be setup to be shoot at 30 FPS for 2 seconds or 20 FPS for 3 seconds etc. Once you’ve finished taking your 60 frames, the camera will play them back for you so you can pick the ones that you want.

The EX-F1 also has a pre-record mode, where when the shutter button is depressed half-way it starts recording at 60 fps, then when the shutter button is fully depressed, it saves not only the most recent shots but also the shots directly leading up to them.

It also has a motion detector to automatically capture up to 60 photos when something is detected. (more…)

Nikon’s Patent Tells us About their Future Cameras

Nikon PatentNikon keeps blowing photographers away with their critically acclaimed Nikon DSLR cameras. According to recently published patent applications, Nikon may have something special up its sleeve for its next generation of DSLRs ( you can read the whole thing on uspto.gov - just search for the application number US 2008/0084484).

In the patent, a small display screen is visible through the optical viewfinder. The photographer can switch back and forth between the optical image and the digital display for a variety of purposes. According to the patent, one of the most prominent uses will be to enable a wide viewing angle when zoomed in tight on a subject. The digital display will show a wide angle image with a superimposed frame that indicates the field of view provided by the lens. In the upper left corner, the new Nikon tech provides a zoom bar, which indicates the current focal length of the attached lens. The viewfinder’s electronic display also features the ability to magnify the image by optical or digital zoom. (more…)
