The Cybershot DSC-T500: A Point-and-Shoot and HD Video Camera In One

Sure, go ahead and tell ‘em it’s a point and shoot camera. No lie there. Sony’s Cybershot DSC-T500 is a 10.1 Megapixel point-and-shoot camera, it just records hi-def movies too. In fact, it records MPEG4 AVC/H.264 movies and it is capable of capturing them at 30 frames/second. Now that’s a hidden camera! While the video camera is shooting 720p HD video, you can get still photos of the scene without a single interruption.

The HDMI files turn out small and crystal clear. The resolution is three times higher than that of regular movies. The camera can automatically identify a smile and show it to you so that you can get that great shot. (more…)

Sony’s New Cyber-Shot T700 And T77 Cameras Are Here

To refresh its not-so-old digital compact camera line-up, Sony has launched the Cyber-shot DSC-T77 and the DSC-T700. There are no pixel upgrades here, the sensor is still 10 megapixels. Of course that still translates to great photo results.

The obvious improvement can be seen right away, as the T77 is now Sony’s thinnest digital camera. All the fun and modern photography features are present including face detection, high sensivity shooting, smile shutter, and in-camera image management. Although it’s really slim, the T77 boasts a big 3-inch LCD touchscreen. (more…)

The Panasonic LX3: A Camera for SLR Owners

Panasonic introduced its newest digital camera, the DMC-LX3, which is aimed at users who own an SLR. It’s pretty bold and unusual positioning. However after scrutinizing the press release, it seems Panasonic really knows what they’re doing. Panasonic is not pushing the megapixels with this one, instead they optimize and improve the CCD.

Here’s an excerpt from the release

The old formula equating pixel count with image quality does not always hold true. In general, if two CCDs have exactly the same physical size but different pixel counts, the one with more pixels is not necessarily better – in fact, it’s likely to generate more picture noise, especially in low-light parts of the image. This poor low-light image quality has been a source of great dissatisfaction for compact camera users. (more…)

The DMC-FX150: A 14.7 Megapixel Camera from Panasonic

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 is the most compact 14 Megapixel camera to be released thus far. It features a 28mm wide-angle lens F2.8 brightness and 3.6x optical zoom. It has a manual exposure mode which lets users choose the shutter speed.

It also has a multi-exposure mode which automatically superimposes three consecutive shots together for surreal photos. Of course the camera also features an automatic mode, called Intelligent Auto (iA) which automatically adjusts the settings depending on the environment. (more…)

Need Higher Resolution? Is 60 Megapixels Enough?

Not content with having less than a 50 megapixel sensor, Phase One introduces the P65+. How does 60 megapixels sound? Sounds good right? With that kind of resolution, you can print a 30×40 inch picture easily.

However the pricing will not make you feel that good. The P65+ is priced at a whopping US$39,900. With that kind of money can get you a top-of-the-line DSLR with lots of lenses and still have some money left over. (more…)

In terms of video, the Primera will be able to record slow-motion QVGA videos at 120FPS, similar to the LG KU990 Viewty and KF750 Secret.

The Nikon D700 Is Official

After much anticipation, Nikon has finally announced their new DSLR, the D700.  This 12.1 megapixel beast of a camera implements the same FX format CMOS found in Nikon’s flagship D3.  The new FX format, opposed to the DX format found in earlier Nikon product, captures images on an image sensor the same size as 35mm film.

The new camera, clearly aimed at professional photographers, implements an array of features not found in earlier models.  These include suport for UDMA CompactFlash, a 3-inch display, 51 point autofocus (with 3D tracking), and four-speed active dust reduction.  It will also shoot up to 8 fps at full resolution and a mind boggling iso 6400.  And to top it off, a highly convenient HDMI out.
