The New MacBook Pro: Rumor or Reality?

This supposedly leaked image above depicts what could be the next generation of MacBook Pros.  The details are scant, save that this year the MacBook Pro is a little bit lighter, weighing in at 5.1 lbs instead of the current 5.4. 802.11n is also a welcome addition. (more…)

6X Zoom on The iPhone 3G Camera?

So you got your brand new iPhone 3G to impress everyone and it’s been working great, except there’s one tiny detail: the more you use it, the more you realize the camera sucks. It has terrible focus, needs great lighting in order to work and it has no zoom. Well, that’s no problem for the likes of Brando, who have come up with a visually impressive solution. Brando has come up with an iPhone telescope, for those times when you really needed to take a shot, but you can’t get there up-close (more…)

Coming Soon? The Macbook Touch

The internet is abuzz with new rumors concerning the possibility of a touchscreen laptop from Apple being made available in October.  Tentatively labeled the “Macbook Touch,”  A source at MacDailyNews has leaked all the details:

Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured multi-touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion’s haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at “low” price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.

Pieces of the puzzle continue to assemble as new details emerge.  (more…)

A Big Week for Apple: iPhone 3G, MobileMe, Remote App and More!

This looks like a big week for Apple.  With the iPhone 3G set to launch tomorrow, Steve Jobs and his team are busy at work in Cupertino, making sure all the pieces are in place for a successful release.  Here is the definitive roundup of all the things you can expect from Apple in the very near future.

iPhone 3G:

The newest iPhone brings with it not only 3G network connectivity but a host of improved features, many of which have been covered previously here on The Hottest Gadgets.  Expect greatness as Apple continues to raise the bar on mobile computing/music/telephony.  The iPhone 3G will be released tomorrow at 8 a.m.

iTunes:

There is a new version of iTunes out today, release 7.7, which brings with it two notable changes.  The overall look and feel of the program has not changed, but users will  notice the new Application Store.  Users also wishing to use the new MobileMe features will have to install the update.

MobileMe:

Described best as your own personal exchange server, MobileMe will sync contacts, calendars, e-mail, photos, and files automatically using your very own server, or “cloud.”  (more…)

The 15 Best Rated Bluetooth Headsets: It’s The Law

If you haven’t heard already, 5 states have already enacted laws to ban cell phone use when driving your car unless you are using a hands free device such as a bluetooth headset enabled phone. The five 5 states are California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York or Washington. It will be illegal to operate a phone while driving without a hands-free headset in many more states to come so this is definitely a good time to get one and avoid the tickets.

But no need to fret, we can help you to avoid making an irrational impulse buy because we’ve scoured the reviews at Amazon, Froogle, CNET and Epinions to bring you a broad-based assessment of the best bluetooth headsets money can buy. The list is sorted from best rated to worst rated, of the best…the creme da la creme! We excluded headsets with high scores from reviewers but negative buyer comments to bring you only the *best*.

This DIY Anti-Interference Shield Stops The Buzzing Noises from Nearby Speakers

The Redbull wrapped around the iPhone dock you see above is a do it yourself anti-interference shield for the Apple iPhone. If you have ever had your iPhone sitting next to some speakers or a monitor you know how much interference it creates with both displays and speakers.

This shield can be built in about 15-30 minutes and it is said that it “effectively reduces or eliminates all the buzzing sounds the iPhone inflicts on surrounding unshielded speakers.” (more…)

The Ultimate Media Center: The ITC One

Decisively marketed to the “I have more money than I know how to rightly spend” demographic, the ITC One from SE2 Labs is, quite possibly, the only media center you’ll need for at least the next 4 years (give or take). That is, of course, if you’re willing to fork over the minimum $25,000 to actually order the machine.

Sitting like some kind of gigantic monolith in your living room, the ITC One comes with an XBOX 360, iPod dock, and DVR on the standard model, with things like an optional Blu-Ray, Apple TV, or Nintendo Wii available as optional addons. Throw in your HDMI, Ethernet, and other standard connections, and this is one beast of a media machine that doesn’t kid around. It’s the veritable Swiss Army knife of media centers with everything wrapped up neatly in one self-contained package for your convenience. (more…)

Zeppelin Airship Inspired iPod Speakers

Check out these amazing ipod dock speakers from the Apple Store! Boy they’re a sexy number… though we’re not entirely sure if the intended market are fans of Led Zeppelin or baby boomers who saw glimpses of those airships (also known as Zeppelins)!

The pointy speakers produce stereo sound and charge your iPod at the same time. They also come with a remote control through which the volume and other aspects of your iPod can be controlled. Finally, it even comes with a S-Video jack for outputting images/video from the iPod to your TV! (more…)

The Child Locator Helps Parents Keep Track of Their Kids

A child is missing. Her face is posted on telephone poles throughout the city. The nightly news covers her frantic family’s plea for her return. A terrible scenario, yet it happens way too frequently.

Thankfully a solution is on the way. The Link Child Locator from Continuum Studio is coming soon. It’s a pair of bracelets. One for the parent, one for the child.

The child module transmits a signal to the parent. The radius is determined beforehand and when the child begins to go outside of the given radius, the parent’s watch/bracelet buzzes.

A glance at the bracelet will tell you which direction the child is in. (more…)

Apple iPhone 3G. Twice as Fast. Half the Price.

The world watched in anticipation today as Steve Jobs unveiled the all new iPhone 3G at Apple’s annual World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC). Let’s take a look at some of the features that make this model a bit more attractive than the current version.

As the name suggests, the new iPhone 3G now works on 3G enabled cellular networks, which allows for more reliable data transfers at much greater speeds. The speed boost will be most noticeable when surfing webpages, viewing large email attachments, and watching streaming video.

Another much needed hardware addition is integrated GPS functionality. It is now possible to accurately find your location, get directions and see traffic updates in real time. (more…)
