Verizon’s MiFi Provides a WiFi Hotspot in Any Spot

Verizon MiFi

Last week, Verizon released the MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, which is a hotspot that you can take with you anywhere.  Basically, it picks up Verizon’s 3G Broadband service and distributes it to a WiFi device of your choice, just like a standard modem and router would.

This thing is nifty in so many ways.  One, it is small!  The shape and size of a small stack of credit cards.  That’ll fit in your pocket comfortably or in any conceivable nook and cranny of your laptop bag.

Two, it shares!  It supports up to five wireless devices at once sharing the same 3G Internet pipe.  It is also device-independent, meaning any and all of your Wi-Fi devices are compatible with this little guy.  So technically you could be using Verizon’s 3G service on your AT&T iPhone, if that concept tickles your fancy.

Three, it’s simple.  None of your wireless devices will require any special software or complicated setup of any kind.  Just type in the security key that’s printed on the back of your MiFi when prompted to join the network.  It really is that simple!

The device is $99.99 after the $50 M.I.R. and data plans range from non-contract per-use to monthly plans starting at $39.99.
