Sony’s New X-Series Walkman will be on Sale Soon
In January, Sony broke the news about the X-Series Walkman. Is it capable of going toe to toe with the iPod juggernaut? So far only time will tell.

The X-Series features a 3 inch 16:9 touch display and digital noise cancellation. It will come in 16GB and 32GB configurations and will offer standard support for many of the audio and video formats out on the market. Most importantly though, it will include wireless Internet functionality enabling X-Series owners to surf the web from the device.  How this will play out is unknown as of writing this. Like many other wireless devices out there, surfing will be limited. I’m sorry, but you probably won’t be playing Peggle on this device.
One large selling point on the X-Series device is the OLED display. The contrast ratio is 10,000:1. This is a major upset to other mp3 players on the market, as most LCD panels on these devices tend to run at around 250 to 300:1 contrast ratios. What does this mean exactly? You will get a deep, rich display capable of handling just about anything you can throw at it. Have you ever tried to watch the Matrix on a portable video device? The dark scenes wash out. With the X-Series, you will be able to separate the black colors from other dark colors.
At the time of this writing, an official price point has not been set, but for a short time prices were breifly displayed on SonyRewards.com for around $299 for the 16GB version and $399 for the 32GB version.
