SlingPlayer Mobile for the Apple iPhone

Sling Media has launched their first SlingPlayer App for the Apple iPhone. For those of you not familiar with Sling Media, they are the creators of SlingBox, “The SlingBox™ allows you to watch and control your favorite TV source from anywhere in the world on your laptop or cell phone. So now you can watch your DVR, digital cable, satellite receiver, or DVD player wherever you see fit. With the Slingbox SOLO, you can watch your favorite TV shows and sporting events from anywhere” (slingmedia.com).
With such a great product which rated “8.1 out of 10″ from CNET.com they have embraced the power of the iPhone and launched their first App called SlingPlayer.

Although the application does have some limitations such as only works on Wi-Fi not on the 3G network and also would work better at a private home network then a public shared network, the performance overall is great. The issue with this is that other versions of SlingPlayer Mobile PalmOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile phones allow the streaming of video over the cell phone network. So why not on the iPhone?
All of the functionality found in previous SlingPlayer Mobile platforms is still intact. Some new features is the ability to use gestures to scroll through your favorite channels as well as all channels.

SlingPlayer Mobile will work with new Slingbox and legacy devices, but Sling officially won’t support the Sling Classic, AV, and Tuner models. If you have problems with any Sling Classic, AV, and Tuner models, Sling will not be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and therefore you are on your own.
Lastly, the versions for PC and Mac are both free for your computer so unless you are real adamant about having SlingPlayer on your iPhone and spending $30, then you are better off passing on this offer. Either way, the App is amazing with great design and functions.
