Apple’s New iPhone will be Equipped with a Significantly Faster CPU
As Apple rushes to release the next version of the iPhone, it is anticipated that they will drastically increase the CPU’s processing power. This was further confirmed by John Gruber, a veteran technology writer.
With the current 3G iPhone embracing a nifty 412 MHz CPU, the next generation model should climb to 600 MHz. That along with some architecture tweaks, shall increase the overall performance capabilities quite significantly. Although it is still unclear on who the maker of the upgraded chip will be, it may very well be the Samsung, who’s ARM chip boasts of having the new Cortex architecture (a superb advancement off of the currently used 2007-era chips).
Gruber also believes that it is likely that there will be an additional 128MB of RAM which will further speed up multi-task functionality. A 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocusing along with video editing capabilities are being gossiped to be included as well.
He anticipates that Apple will maintain price stability by selling the 16GB iPhone for $199 and a newly 32GB model at $299.
Once Apple confirms these upgrades through marketing campaigns, we will have little more to look forward to from Apple, unless they make their discussions with expanding networks public (Verizon anyone?).
