The Cybershot DSC-T500: A Point-and-Shoot and HD Video Camera In One

Sure, go ahead and tell ‘em it’s a point and shoot camera. No lie there. Sony’s Cybershot DSC-T500 is a 10.1 Megapixel point-and-shoot camera, it just records hi-def movies too. In fact, it records MPEG4 AVC/H.264 movies and it is capable of capturing them at 30 frames/second. Now that’s a hidden camera! While the video camera is shooting 720p HD video, you can get still photos of the scene without a single interruption.

The HDMI files turn out small and crystal clear. The resolution is three times higher than that of regular movies. The camera can automatically identify a smile and show it to you so that you can get that great shot. All while the video camera is still going.

You can even go into low light situations and get a reasonable shot. You can do all these things in high def, but only 10 minutes at a time. A memory stick slot will increase memory to as much as 16GB but it won’t increase the time limit. Perhaps that’s the reason Sony will be including the Picture Motion Browser software to organize your 10 minute bites into a feature film!

This little gem will ship in black with a brushed metal finish in late September for about $400.
