Can a Bionic Contact Lens Cure Blindness?

The answer is a resounding “Yes,” for many people, according to Professor James Wolffsohn of Aston University.  The Professor is spearheading research efforts to develop flexible artificial replacement lenses for near and far-sighted people to replace the old lens in a surgery similar to cataract surgery.

If the lens does work, expect it to pave the way for more innovative procedures and cures, even biological enhancements.

You can reasonably expect the lenses to become available in the next five to ten years, and to cost around £1,000, or $1854 US (at today’s exchange rate).
