The Nokia 888 Can Change Shapes On The Fly

A CoupNokia is planning to change the way we think of mobile phones. Their new phone will come in the form of a device that will roll up and mimic a bracelet, bend over and clip to your pocket, wake you up in the morning, form to fit your face when you use it as a phone and more.  So far Nokia’s calling this cell phone a personal mobile communication device. To me it looks like a revolution in the way you look at a gadget.

It uses a liquid battery, speech recognition, and a flexible touch screen.  The touch sensitive body cover lets it understand and adjust to the actions you take. Sometimes the sensitivity Form follows function and follows and follows and followsis positively eerie!  When the phone rings, the Nokia 888 forms itself into the shape of a phone. You can personalize these forms and record them. So it fits you the best and makes your brother crazy.  It’s like the feeling of having an electronic pet, or maybe a butler. As it senses your moves, it understands what you want, and responds to you in the way you love. It learns you, and learns to fit you better.

Also e-motions lets you send forms to the other Nokia 888 users and it. It could be the shape of a heart or a small dance. This way he can tell you he loves you without words.

By the way, e-motions stands for electronic motions. It works just like a program, where you can create forms to send to your Nokia 888 friends.  You can send a heart shape to your girlfriend and her 888 will turn into the shape of a heart.  That flexibility can get you thinking of all sorts of great things to do.  Make a call to your boyfriend, and wrap him around your wrist; give it a date to remember and it can start flopping around.  There are hundreds of ways to give the 888 a chance to surprise you.  Form follows function and Nokia now lets form follow you.

Is it me, or does that little strip of semi-sentience seem just a tad spooky?
  • It looks pretty awesome. I would love one. I don't think it will ever come out though. Awesome things like this never come out.
  • Paul
I wouldn't say spooky, but I wouldn't trust it with my bank details.
  • Is it just me or does the photo of it wrapped around someone's wrist like a watch look ludicrous? How are they going to fit a camera and cardreader in that one?

Mind you, if they made it a little longer and put a small speaker in each end you could bend it over your head and use it a headphones too.

    WAIT FOR THE BRAIN CHIP!
  • The shape(s) of things to come. When they biggify this, your wall-mounted hdtv screen will know when to curl the corners for your own personal OmniMax theater. Garage doors will no longer need the gears and gizmos taking up space on the sides and above your car. Pet doors will know if it's the cat trying to make up its mind, or if the dog REALLY needs to go out. OMG! This will revolutionize the convertible industry... if it survives the next few years, and whatever changes are on the rapidly approaching horizon.

Yes it does, yes it does...

this is a cool idea but there is no way you could play music of even put music on it in the first place on one of these

Perhaps it will utilize new advances in flexible optics technology. Perhaps it could connect and store information via wifi. With cheap flash-memory capable of storing up to a terabyte or more of information, a smaller version could be used for storing photos temporarily until within distance of a wifi hotspot, where it will upload the saved information to your mail account, or perhaps it will utilize a flexible usb connection. This would kick major rear.

so what happens when people remote hack them to crawl out of ur window at night? not only do u lose ur phone but he has any info u put on it
  • Wow! That looks cool! I wonder if they will really manufacture it.
  • Bob
Well i think its cool but i mean ... sooner or later other cell phone companies will start inventing better cell phones. same thing with the razor. as soon as that came out their starting to make thinner phones. i think it would be a big waste of time and money
  • lilly
i caant wait to get one i really hope it comes out.
  • Gwen
So how would you text etc using this phone? it doesnt seem to have the usual buttons so im guessing it would be a touch screen keyboard in which case it would be ludicrously slow to text
  • fff
gwen, there are far better technology for texting than using your fat finger
  • Bob
Yep, that question seems eerie to me. It poses as a question, but there's the underlying implication that it is imperitive you will do SOMETHING together today. The only choice you have is what.
  • It's cool. Innovative and good looking.
  • jordan
It has voice recognition. There is no need for 'buttons' or keyboard.

And just to think of how exspencive these things are going to be.
