Introducing the Lenovo ThinkPad W700

Lenovo is back and it’s packing some serious hardware for graphic professionals.  Referred to as a “Mobile Workstation” and not a laptop, this 17-inch widecreen computer comes with a built in Wacom drawing tablet and color calibrator.

The W700 easily outpaces many desktops with its 3GHz Core 2 Extreme quad core processor, (upgradeable) 8GB DDR3 RAM, dual hard drives with RAID configurations, NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M Open GL graphics processors customizable with up to 1 GB of dedicated video memory. The WUXGA screen with 400 nit brightness is perfect for digital artists and is sure to please many enthusiasts as well.

The base model will retail for around $3000 in September.

Of course, it’d be nicer if it weren’t so Windows-95 ugly!  Functionality beat out form for sure, but maybe this will spur Apple or someone else to follow suit with a nicer presentation?  One can only hope.
