See Google Android in Action in This Video

The video below shows Google Android, the open-source mobile Operating System, to be used on all Open Alliance handsets in the future.  It will power devices from direct competitors of Apple’s iPhone and it is set to become a triumph of open-source software. Think of it like Mozilla’s Firefox for web browsers, or the OS upon which Android is based on, known as Linux.

Specifically, what the video shows is Android running on an HTC Dream handset, also known as the HTC G1 in the US.

According to TMONews, we may see Android here as soon as September 08.  Existing T-Mobile customers will be able to purchase the phone for as little as $150.  After the pre-sale in September, the set will become available for new customers in October for a price of $399 with activation.

Regardless of when it’s finally released to the public, I hope Android becomes a stellar peice of mobile software, creating a de-facto open standard in the cellular markets.
