With Eye-Phone, You Get Instant Info About What’s In Your Pictures

If you’ve ever gone to a foreign country, finding out where you are can sometimes be more complicated than it seems at first. Even GPS-Equipped globe trotters can be mislead as often times the map looks nothing like the terrain around them.
The European Space Agency (ESA) has set out to change that however. They’ve developed a system dubbed the “Eye-Phone” that utilises GPS Coordinates, Advanced Object Recognition and relevant information retrieved from the Internet to recognize and identify unknown objects.
That is a long way of saying “Take a photo with your mobile phone and it instantly tells you what you’re looking at”. The Eye-Phone won the regional prize for Bavaria, Germany in the 2007 European Satellite Navigation competition.
