The New Smile Detecting Sony Camcorder

Sony\'s HDR CX12 handy camHigh def movies are great inventions, but they’re hard to stick in a scrap book. Well, Sony–the genie of the video world–has produced a compact HD video capture camera that will do the hard part for you.  The magic is smile shutter and face detection and it works like this:  As you record the video with your HDR-CX12 Memory Stick® Handycam®, it senses when anyone smiles and automatically takes a 10-Megapixel photo!  It  features child and adult prioritization so you can capture photos when your intended subject group smiles, and can even detect and capture a smile while in standby mode – just aim the camcorder and you’ll capture smiling moments.

Sony’s HDR-CX12 AVCHD powered camera records full 1920×1080 HD video on HandycamSony Memory Stick Pro Duo and PRO Duo (Mark2) media cards. It’s ultra compact at roughly the size of a soda can.

It has a CMOS sensor with Exmor™-derived technology for stunning video detail and clarity, a BIONZ™ imaging processor, an advanced 12x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization. There is Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel surround sound recording and a built-in zoom microphone. An assignable dial can be customized to manually control focus, brightness and white balance.

The HDR-CX12 camcorder will be in stores early August for about $900. Or check sonystyle.com to pre-order one.
