Philips Announces 52″ 1080p 3D TV that Works Without 3D Glasses

Indeed it’s true. You can throw away your pair of 3-D glasses thanks to Philips new 52″ 3D Display. This new line uses Philips’ WOWvx technology to allow 3D viewing without the need for glasses. This piece of eye candy is specifically designed for digital signage, pro-Av and entertainment applications. But don’t leave now to your nearest Best Buy, this hot item won’t be available until later this year.

The 52-inch auto-stereoscopic 3D Display is based on a full HD (1920×1080) LCD panel. It will offer full brightness (700 cd/m2), full contrast (2000:1), and a response time of 8 ms. The WOWvx technology uses the 2D-plus-Depth format, which gives additional occlusion information for a real 3D ‘look around’ effect.

Price hasn’t yet been indicated but Philips plans to demonstrate the 52-inch 3D Display, along with a full range of other 3D Displays at the Philips 3D Solutions booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center at InfoComm 2008, from June 18-20. Philips claims this to be the most exciting news for TV since the color display. We shall find out soon enough.
