A 360 Degree Lens for those REALLY Large Family Photos

the 360 degree camera Now their is a camera that can’t be snuck up on!  Olympus Japan announced the development of a 360° lens and camera.  Sure it’s just a prototype now, but think of the possibilities!  A self portrait no matter where you point.  Always getting a picture of the guy who hates to get his picture taken.

Just like Ford and his assembly line, this 360° lense is a world first.  And the company has only been working on it for a year.  The camera covers a vertical angle of 180° now, while the old version only covered 45°. A special kind of glass is used for the lens, which has a diameter of 3cm.

All shenanigans aside, the camera is expected to be used for surveillance and at this time we don’t even know when.  Olympus hasn’t said when the camera will be in production.  Their own R&D lab, Future Creation Laboratory, is mainly responsible for the development of the technology.

This is not a world first. Still pretty cool though.

eyesee360.com is just software that allows you to wrap your panorama shots into a 360 degree view. As a photographer, I can assure you that while there have been many prototypes and the idea is technically not new, nor is the lens for that matter, it’s possible that it could be a world first when it came to being a production item. :)
