Exclusive: The Waterproof Phone from NTT DoCoMo

You know how our Japanese friends usually get the good gadgets first? Well, they kinda did it again with this underwater phone. The NTT DoCoMo F705i is dubbed as “A waterproof & slim phone seeking slenderness”. I don’t really connect to the tag line, but basically with this phone you can finally be taking calls (safely) while having a bath. How cool is that?

To prove that it can resist water, the phone is put into a tank of water while operating. It feels like watching Luke Skywalker in Empire Strikes Back, but much better.

The F705i is only usable in Japan at the moment. It has a 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera and standby time for approximately 460 hours. Other details are pretty scant, but I think mermaids and mermans will digg this.

    @Horizon
    Yes, mermen would be correct. :)
    Or maybe mutant fish or sea creatures.

  • What I want is a waterproof iPhone now...

    Thats a great idea. If it falls in water, you won't panic it's designed for that. Good job! :D

  • Mermaids and mermans? :| Should that be "mermen"? >_>

    I would feel foolish taking a call in the shower without at least a snorkel attachment.
