AMD Preparing Netbook Processor to Rival Intel’s Atom?

Along with the aclaimed Intel Atom and Via’s Nano Processors, it seems as though AMD is taking a swing at the UMPC market. The picture below appears to be a leaked AMD slide, describing a new single-core, 64-bit processor.

The chip will include an internal DDR2 Memory Controller, something we’ve come to expect from every AMD chip since the Athlon 64. It should also provide HyperTransport support.

Sadly, measuring 27×27mm with a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 8W, it doesn’t seem to be as impressive or practical as the Atom with its 1.6 GHz, 2.5W architecture.

Regardless, it’s nice to see AMD enter this market.

More info here, if you can read German.
