The Dual Touchscreen OLPC XO-2 Has Been Unveiled
At a conference yesterday, Nicolas Negroponte announced the OLPC XO-2, the follow-up to the successful OLPC XO.
The laptop is designed to be significantly smaller than its predecessor, making it more like a book than a computer, given its form factor. In fact, the XO-2 is designed to be flipped on its side and used as a book.
The device features dual touch screens this time around, allowing the device’s functions to change dramatically depending on what the user desires. Gone is the hand crank that was present in the original XO, leading some to speculate that this laptop may draw power from sunlight.
Negroponte also announced that the Give 1, Get 1 program will return in August or September 2008, allowing consumers who purchase an XO laptop to give one to a child in an impoverished country.

You really have to admire Negroponte for his vision of technology and people, and what he is trying to accomplish by making low-cost and powerful hardware and software accessible for everyone around the world.
Though little more than design sketches at this point, expect to see the OLPC XO-2 released in 2010.
