Say Hello to the Asus EBOX Desktop Computer

Asus is getting ready to release its new desktop computer on June 3rd, according to new leaked reports.

The computer, dubbed the EBOX, is part of the very successful Eee PC line, and packs 2 GB of ram, a 160 GB hard drive, and Asus’ own version of Xandros Linux all into a tiny, Wii-like form factor.

No other details have been released yet, but the computer is expected to run the new Atom processor that will also ship with the Eee Pc 901, bringing better power management and performance to the Eee line.

The EBOX is expected to retail for around $300 dollars.

The moment I saw the pictures of this machine, I could imagine myself using it.

Currently, I have this gigantic green beast of a gaming computer that dual boots Windows x64 and Ubuntu Linux and a G4 mac sitting right next to it. I like to use it to download torrents and run Miro for shows, but the problem is that with especially big files, the download queue gets backed up fast. I’ll leave it downloading during the day, but if I could leave it on at night, it would be much more convenient. The catch is that the current computer I have is a huge power drain (not to mention loud!), and the mac tends to run a bit hot, so I’m not comfortable leaving either on.

I can completely see myself and other folks leaving this little power-sipping, quiet PC on at night, hooking up an external USB drive, and letting the downloads roll in so that the connection is free during the day.

Personally, I can’t wait for this to come out so I can grab one and test it out.
