Samsung’s Innovative 2263DX Dual Monitor
Many of our readers already know the value of having increased screen real estate. Whether you use two linked monitors or one big widescreen, you are aware that your productivity jumps enormously as your screen size grows.
Samsung looks to further the trend by introducing the 2263DX Dual Monitor. It’s a 22-inch widescreen monitor that comes with a 7-inch mini-monitor that sits on the side and runs at 800×480. The main screen is large enough for your most complex programs and documents, and the side monitor, which can be configured to rest around any side of the monitor thanks to an extendable arm, can hold all your extras like widgets, instant messenging programs, media players, etc.
In fact, the mini monitor has it’s own moniker of Ubisynch 7 and rumor has it that Samsung will be selling the it as a stand-alone device. All you need to run it is an open USB port and the device drivers, which currently exist for Windows 98, Me, XP, 2000, x64and Vista). But Mac users need not worry, the manufacturer intends to have drivers ready by the time it’s shipped.
This looks to be an incredibly useful device. I myself own a 22-inch widescreen monitor from Benq, and it’s a great screen, but I do get annoyed at switching between apps, say when an IM comes in while I’m writing.
With a side monitor, I could just store whatever apps I wanted on the side screen and keep focused on my main work. No official release date or price yet.
