Three Mobile Concepts for the Future

Wonder what will the future mobile phones be like? Nokia’s advanced design team shared their research project, named “Homegrown” at Nokia’s London design studio.

The project’s main objective is to encourage people to make more sustainable choices. This is not the first project showcased by Nokia.

The same team here also created the Remade concept, which was shown at Mobile World Congress.

The three concepts revealed are:

Energy efficient chargerTheĀ  Zero Waste Charger Concept:
This is basically an attempt to reduce the energy wasted when chargers are unplugged from a mobile device but left plugged into a live mains socket. Its something we have all done(or continue to do).

A lot of people leave their chargers plugged in 24/7, unless they have to go somewhere for several days and they are taking it with them. The idea would be a charger that wastes no power when it is not in use, or when your phone is fully charged.

Better User InterfaceThe People First Concept:

This concept takes three human universals of the way people think about communication – time, lists, and people – to inspire and examine new user interface ideas.

It’ll be intriguing to see how people can interact better with their devices, if people think outside the mold when developing new user interfaces.

I am sure you have noticed the similarities in mobile phone interfaces these days.
Upgrade the capabilities, not the hardwareThe Wears In, Not Out Concept:

This explores how people could potentially upgrade their devices digitally through software rather than physically, giving people an additional choice on how they use and update their mobile phones.

This is the most promising concept, in my opinion. Not only it will enable cheaper ugrade, but it will reduce the amount of unused cell phone waste.

The design team developing these concepts works on a time frame looking three to five years into the future.

Not bad, Nokia!!
